Google Directory Has Updated

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Well I haven’t seen this mentioned on any of the SEO forums, I didn’t look hard, but we had an update of the contents and an export of Google Directory PR.

I now see my new Regional link that I added up to DMOZ (it got approved with in 2 weeks) in the Google directory. I have had some people email letting me know the order and PR has changed.

If you have seen any good threads on this drop it in the comments please.

DMOZ Meta Hutcheson Gets SEW Account Hacked

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

I wish I had the whole text for you but all I have is what I posted on resource-zone.com. The post got hammer about 5 mins after I read it. I posted on R-Z and when I when back it was gone. Nothing in the cache either.

But it’s mostly gone now. Declining appreciation gifts, fewer applications to become editors, less frantic appeals for inclusion than ever before. But the big blow is that people use search engines to find websites, and the search engines don’t value us the way they once did. Not so long ago a website couldn’t be in America Online’s search index unless we approved them. And we still form Google’s directory. But nobody uses Google’s directory.

DMOZ Editorship Forsale

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Barry over at Search Engine Roundtable posted on a DMOZ Editorship For Sale On Ebay. Here is the eBay auction.

The user that is selling the DMOZ editorship is seoblackhat com and registered on 10-25-2005.

Sure enough you drop over to seoblackhat.com and there is a notice of the DMOZ Editorship for sale.

I applied to be a DMOZ four times and just got turned down for the fourth time last month. Jimmoble a Meta let me know on my 4th decline - “Declined again. It’s probably time to find some alternative new hobby.”

I am guessing it is the fact that I offer a submission service to add websites to DMOZ and change for it that could be standing in my way. The other reason could be that I own a number of directories that have there starter sites parsed from the DMOZ RDF and don’t give credit. The programmer that set up the directories did this.

It will be interesting to see how the auction pans out. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets shutdown.

[added Oct 18 3:27 GMT-5] - Well that didn’t say up very long. Just got pulled. I got the following email at Tue 10/18/05 3:18 PM from eBay.

Please be advised that the following auction 5626578939 - DMOZ Editorship of Page Rank 5 Category Page PR5 was ended early by eBay. The auction was ended due to the account suspension of the seller. All results for this auction are null and void.
