SEO Company Looks Back At Its Beginnings

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

I got into SEO while developing a web site for one of my clients Goodwill’s Used Cars back in November 2003. They were buying and I was quoting. It’s kind of funny when I think about it now.

I added a line to the quote called Site Optimize & Submission to Search Engines. The description of that item was “Develop list of keywords with client; optimize title, meta keywords, meta description, & copy for high search engine ranking; submit site to major search engines” and I billed them $250.

That was my first SEO job and it has been all down hill since then and I have never looked back. I didn’t even know anything about SEO at that point. I remember finishing the site and then thinking I better look into this SEO stuff to see what it’s all about. What I discovered to me was unbelievable and I was hooked. Right way I saw this was the way to go and I put my Cardealer Inventory List Web App that I had developed in coldfusion on the back burner.

For me SEO was a natural. I am hard wired to love knowledge, and already had a finely homed trouble shooting skill set from working in the computer industry (Novell, NT Server, etc.) for 15 years.

I spend the first 6 month to a year spaming 18 different SEO forums and learning all I could and then in July of 2004 I decided to put up SEO Company.

SEOCOMANY.CA was registered in July 13 2004. The WayBack Machine first shows my 4 page site on July 25, 2004 less than 2 weeks later. The site started up with a main page , a page on SEO Techniques, and two pages on SEO tools. One targeting SEO Tools and the other targeting SEO Tool.

I selected that the domain SEOCOMPANY.CA based on my feeling that getting fist place for the key phrase seo company was doable. Today my site came up first place on Google for that phrase.

SEO has been very good to me and if you are willing to work hard things can come together quickly. I thought that grossing $85k a year doing tech work was good until I got into SEO. I want to thank all the people that helped me get started and most of all I want to thank all my past and current customers that have entrusted me with optimizing their websites.

Huge Deal - Limited Time Only

Monday, October 24th, 2005

I am looking to pick up a few extra clients so I coupled a super duper deal of $884 worth of permanent one-way relevant links for $499 with four different consulting packages. I am only going to put leave this special price up for the first 50 deals and then either the number of links will be redacted or the price will go up.

The products I am offering in this limited Huge Deal answer the following 5 questions.

Am I doing anything wrong on my site?
What is the best way to get my site new links?
Why are other sites ranking higher than mine?
Am I targeting the right keywords?
Where do I find a link package for more traffic?

You will find the color code solutions on the Huge Deal page.

SEO Company Does Conserative White Hat SEO

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

white hat

I just got an email from a prospect client in which he asked me an very important question. One all people looking for SEO/SEM work should be asking.

…Is there any risk at all to my site if I choose to use your Super Links Package. For the reasons above, I do not want to engage in any activity that could cause damage to my site’s rankings and PR.
I am looking to take a conservative approach to my SEO efforts.

I wrote him back and let him know that I was a Strict While Hat Conservative. I have no clients with DP Co-op or Link Vault links, and I stopped offering my reciprocal links package about a year ago. Now don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that I think DP Co-op or Link Vault are “link schemes”. I am just saying that I have a lot invested in my SEO Company site and I can’t afford to do anything stupid that could be seen as spammy that just might cause me to pick up a penalty or worse yet the dreaded ban.

The principles I follow for my own site I do the same for my clients sites. I wouldn’t risk my site and I won’t risk your site. I endeaver to operate on the principle of doing to others what I would want them to do to me if they were in my shoes and I was in theirs.

Pagerank Brings More Traffic

Saturday, October 22nd, 2005

Well it may not bring you more traffic, but it brings me more traffic. You probably were expecting some thing about how higher Pagerank (PR) will bring you more traffic - you won’t get that from me. (Having a higher Toolbar PR can bring you more traffic but it is not the PR that brings the traffic, it is what brings the PR - the inbound links.)

Anyway a Google give us all a Pagerank export (I put update in the title as not all realize it is just a export) on Oct 19th and with it I got a 32% traffic spike.

October 10-21/2005 Traffic:
Oct 2005 Traffic

This is for the most part traffic to my Pagerank Export History page. If you havn’t been seen it yet check it out. I have been told it is the best Pagerank (Google directory and Toolbar), Backlink, and Algorithm history on the Internet.

Jagger Update 2 More Weeks

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Well lots of people dropped out on this update. But hold on and don’t jump to any concultions. If you dropped out you may just come back.

GoogleGuy has posted at SearchEngineWorld that it is going to be a couple of weeks before the update is over.

Dayo_UK, you’re going to want to wait a couple weeks. The third stage of Jagger is the most likely to bring canonicalization changes. We’re still in stage one at this point. If you still see issues after that, I’d let us know.

Google Directory Has Updated

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Well I haven’t seen this mentioned on any of the SEO forums, I didn’t look hard, but we had an update of the contents and an export of Google Directory PR.

I now see my new Regional link that I added up to DMOZ (it got approved with in 2 weeks) in the Google directory. I have had some people email letting me know the order and PR has changed.

If you have seen any good threads on this drop it in the comments please.

KRMT Mockup Display Hits v0.41

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Well I am developing the Keyword Ranking Montior Tool (KRMT) from both ends. The spec has been finish and submitted to my team of programmers in Russia. The backend is going to be done in Perl and we are still not sure if it going to be Perl/GD or flash for the display.

While that is all happening and things are getting started I have another RAC programmer from Romainia working on the frontend mockup. Their are two reasons I am having the frontend mockup done at the same time. One is for brain storming reasons and the other is I need the visual stimulant to fuel my drive to keep this project on track.

This tool is all about display anyway. There are lots of tools out there that will scrape the SERP or connect to the search engines API and give you results, it’s just the way they display them.

I want the KRMT to be simple and easy to quickly give a non-SEO type a quick view of the over all picture. I want the viewer to be able to look at the blacklinks, pages in index, alexa, site traffic, and 20 keywords in less than 5 mins. At the same time I want them to get a good picture of what is happening.

Lets say Joe Public over 3 months spends $9000 on 200 directory submissions, 30 article writes and submissions to article sites, 6 press releases, and 20 text link ads on relevant home pages. He wants to be able to watch a number of things.

His over all traffic in uniques visits, number of visits and the number of pages viewed. A quick mouseover the Site Traffic link that he can see that.

He wants to be able to watch and see what kind of an increase he gets in inbound links and if the percent of his site pages in the index increases. Mouseover over the Backlinks and Pages in Index and it is all right there.

He then wants to be able to quickly track the differnet sets of keywords that where targeted to show how they go up in the search engine results position for Google, Yahoo and MSN. With KRMT you can mouse over 30 keywords in 3 minutes and get a good grasp of how each keyword is doing.

The frontend programmer is working on version 0.50 as we speak. Version 0.50 will show an area graph in the background of each keywork graph for the number of visits to the page that is ranking for that keyword. That means as your ranking goes up (or down) you will be able to watch the change in traffic for that page quick and easy.

I have some other front end features that I am considering and will post them later. I am looking at being able to mouse over a cell in the grid and have the line number popup. We are currently considering Java or Flash to do that.

Version 0.6 or 0.7 I will decide on what language we are going to use for the frontend and at the same time release the RSS feed with the XML to XHTML convertor. You will just do an include statement of the XML to XTHML convertor in a site template file and poof the graphs will be on yoru own site.

This will make things nice for SEO firms that will want to repackage this tool and provide it to there clients.

DMOZ Meta Hutcheson Gets SEW Account Hacked

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

I wish I had the whole text for you but all I have is what I posted on resource-zone.com. The post got hammer about 5 mins after I read it. I posted on R-Z and when I when back it was gone. Nothing in the cache either.

But it’s mostly gone now. Declining appreciation gifts, fewer applications to become editors, less frantic appeals for inclusion than ever before. But the big blow is that people use search engines to find websites, and the search engines don’t value us the way they once did. Not so long ago a website couldn’t be in America Online’s search index unless we approved them. And we still form Google’s directory. But nobody uses Google’s directory.
