What Is A Favicon?
A Favicon is short for "favorites icon" and it is referred to in a variety of ways including "page icon", "website icon" and "URL icon". It is an icon that has been created for a particular site or page and it appears in the address bar before the URL. The favicon could be an alphabetical letter representing a company or a symbolic image.
Why Use A Favicon?
Webmasters use favicons to brand their sites and also to get visitors to remember the site. Favicons are also useful in favorites (or bookmarks) where the icon will show with the book marked listing. The idea is that if a visitor bookmarks the site and a favicon is present there will be more eye catching attention given to that site in the bookmark list.
How To Create A Favicon
There are numerous free favicon generators on the internet. To create a favicon you browse to find the image on your hard drive you would like to use for your favicon, and then upload the favicon into the favicon generator.
