Keyword Density

Keyword Density

Keyword density is the measurement in percentage of the number of times a keyword appears compared to the total number of words on a page. Most webmasters are concerned with tweaking the keyword density for words they are trying to rank in search results.

Calculating Keyword Density

Keyword density can be calculated by dividing the total number of times a keyword appears on a page by the total number of words of page. This, however, is not necessary due to the creation of SEO Tools that do the calculating.

Optimal Keyword Density

There is no set percentage that each page should have in regards to keyword density. Most well ranking sites have a keyword density of 3%-5%. If a site's keyword density is too high it will start to look like keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is a black hat SEO tactic and is not recommended.

Why Is Keyword Density Important

Keyword density is one of the on page factors search engines use to determine a site's ranking. If a webmaster has any questions about the keyword density of their site they may want to contact a reputable SEO company.
